The Oculus — Latin for eye — rises from the World Trade Center as more than architecture. Designed by Santiago Calatrava, its white wings reach outward like a bird taking flight, a deliberate symbol of resilience and renewal built over ground that once held loss.

Every year on September 11th, its spine opens to let in a single beam of light. The rest of the year, it simply glows — a cathedral of steel and daylight in the heart of Lower Manhattan.

This photograph captures that stillness. The geometry. The quiet that exists inside one of the world's most visited spaces.
